El pijama

Proviene del término inglés «pyjamas», que a su vez se deriva del hindi «pāy-jāma» (पायजामा), que significa «ropa para las piernas». Esta palabra en hindi tiene sus raíces en el persa «پايجامه» (pāy-jāmeh), donde «pāy» significa «pierna» y «jāmeh» significa «ropa».

El término fue adoptado por los británicos durante el período colonial en India en el siglo XVII. En esa época, los británicos observaron que los nativos usaban estas prendas cómodas para dormir o como ropa de casa y adoptaron la costumbre, llevándola de vuelta a Europa. Desde allí, la moda y el término se extendieron a otros idiomas y culturas, incluyendo el español, donde se convirtió en «pijama».

Hoy en día, el pijama es una prenda de vestir comúnmente utilizada para dormir o para estar cómodo en casa.
